Dr. Gina Bartucci talks about mindfulness with Lakeshore Public Radio's Sarah Opat. She's a clinical psychologist in Chicago who implements mindfulness and meditation programs in groups of people. The simple act of using mindfulness allows our brains to live our lives more fully. Mindfulness is using a non-judgmental attitude when noticing thoughts. A great way to start being mindful is taking 3 deep breathes. This act is simply focusing on how the breath feels when inhaling and when releasing. When a thought arises (trust me, it will) notice the thought and allow yourself to come back to how it feels to breathe. Continue this practice when need be. Let go of any judgement and congratulate yourself for making this a priority for your well being. Bringing mindfulness to washing the dishes is also beneficial. Dr. Gina Bartucci has been using this trick of mindfulness to ACTUALLY ENJOY WASHING THE DISHES. This allows us to feel the water running on our hands and onto the dishes as if this were happening for the first time. Maybe smelling the soap and being with the object we are washing. Hopefully it's not a week old crusted egg on a plate. Using a method called "beginners mind" is the act of letting the moment happen as if it were happening for the first time, considering it is. Mindfulness helps everyday life, by living moment to moment. About Gina: From Gina
I am a licensed clinical psychologist based out of Chicago and I focus on integrating mindfulness into therapy. I believe working through stress can feel better when you pay attention to yourself right now and treat yourself with kindness. With strong appreciation for mindfulness and diversity, I approach my practice with gratitude and respect. After living shortly abroad in Australia, and volunteering in Ecuador, my work with clients focuses on the uniqueness of the whole person. I empower others most when they are ready to make change in their lives. I strongly incorporate evidence based practices including meditation and mindfulness with clients to guide them towards their goals. Integrity is a strong value of mine and thus I incorporate a personal mindfulness practice into my own life. I deeply believe we all have potential to enjoy the simple things, but we frequently get caught up in the difficulty of past experiences and patterns. Bringing awareness to who we are, and what we are experiencing in the here and now while moving closer to our true nature is the most important journey in our lifetime. Supporting clients in any step on that journey is my joy and privilege. If there is something I can do to support bringing more presence and self-compassion into your experience or your organization, please don’t hesitate to contact me! Dr.GinaBartucci.com
