Where to begin.
Take it from the top. And a one, anda two, anda one, two, three. Around four months ago my friend Natalie and her mom invited me to an event: Chi-Ka-Go! with live art, entertainers, and healers. Chi (natural energy) - KA (Egyptian energy) - Go! (movement). Here, at Chi-Ka-Go performers shined a light of truth. Here, I met Julian after he performed Chaos. Since meeting, Julian and I have kept in touch sharing ideas, music, and art. His new album called for an opening release party @ The Black Couch in Chicago April 30th 2016. He offered the idea of having me paint live during this event a month prior. Gladly, I took up the offer and brought a close friend. Natalie and I loaded up my Chevy with a fuck ton of art we had on our walls, floors, and basements. Grabbed two heavy boxes of paint, a few jars, and a nasty toothbrush for texture. (Ya never know what kind of textures you desire until you sit in front of a canvas). And the brownies my mom made. From Lowell, Indiana to the buzzing, electrifying city of Chicago we traveled. Rain dampened the hairs on our heads as we unloaded our painting supplies. Hopped up (we had to climb in the back way) the cement ledge and began our journey. The Black Couch has a welcoming energy for creativity. This place glossed our curious souls into the unknown. Set up our area with home-made art and dipped out quickly for a taco-run. Sang our own harmonies to the warm-ish rain weather surrounding our human bodies in the car to-and fro- the taco place. Got a tour from the owner of The Black Couch. Turns out the dude is an artist himself. Crafting conversations, carpentry, and glass works of his own I stood impressed. Bringing people together from all walks of life is a gift. I thank life for this opportunity as well as Julian, and the space surrounding The Black Couch in Chicago. And Natalie for helping create this dope ass painting. God knows our brains got it goin' on. |
