New Muse Monday
I forgot I had arm hairs until they all stood up during Julian Xavier Lozano’s performance at Chi-Ka-Go this past Saturday. Which leads me to where I am now: at two in the effin’ morning, awoken from a cold sweat. An indescribable reason to write about this rap wizard has taken over my focus. Raw and cold blooded, his lyrics weaved through the airwaves and into the souls residing at the warm, clay walled yoga studio, Chi-Ka-Go. Celebrating their 6 year anniversary, Chi-Ka-Go reeked with absolute, soul enriching talent: Quite literally it reeked. Sweat and energy steamed off the walls and into my lungs as rapper JXL spun an authentic beat of solitude. By spun, I mean completely charged the whole room with his new school of hip-hop lyrics to “Choas”, http://youtu.be/XeoNVS7Tf0g, without a trip. Chicago rooted; JXL connects a wicked consciousness of truth to the grounds of hip-hop. And for all you Monday haters out there, you damn well should be tapping into these authentic beats. You can find his wide variety of songs on http://jxlrap.com/. Lyrically channeling the initial intention of hip-hop by using politically and spiritually, JXL stands tall. Also, added to our conversation the fact he has been rapping since he was 11. Coming from someone who scrapbooked photographs of various dogs met on vacation at the age of 11 (weird, I know), I vouch for JXL’s devotion as impressive. Inner peace, existentialism, political freedom, non-judgment, and the constant release of emotions swim in the sea of his lyrics. The song “Chaos” performed live in front of my Austrian eyeballs Saturday night wow’d every rod and cone. Did they blink? No. The lyrics are stronger than a Canadian cigarette washed down by a double shot of espresso. You could take my word. But, I would rather you not believe me. Be curious and read for yourself how invigorating the truth is behind these JXL’s vernacular, http://genius.com/Jxl-chaos-lyrics. JXL is no ordinary character and is my new muse. This rap wizard runs off Aloe Vera, spirulina, flax seed, spinach and strawberries for breakfast. From his impressive breakfast choices to juicy lyrics enriched with meaning, JXL speaks to diverse crowds. Now, with it being Monday, I advise you to save your three dollars you’re about to spend on shitty coffee and wake up your soul with music dense with a subject that matter. Time to tap into the unknown. Oh wait, you know him now (JXL) so, scratch that. Or spin it. The choice is yours. Let us know what your muse is on this magnificent Monday. Sincerely, Bob Ross
